What to Expect in Dahab This Autumn: Weather, Water & Adventures

 New Conditions - New Energy

After a long, hot summer, Dahab starts to shift. Temperatures drop, the wind picks up, and the sea enters a new phase. And just like every year, we adapt with excitement to this new season of freediving, wind and movement.

At Yoga | Apnea Dahab, we want to share what autumn means for us, not just to give you useful info if you're planning a trip, but to show you a bit of our daily life and what makes this time of year special.

Freediving Conditions in Autumn

From September to November, the sea in Dahab begins to change, mostly for the better if you're into freediving:

  • Less heat. Although the temperature in the water isn’t a problem, the preparation beforehand can be exhausting. Putting on your wetsuit in 45°C heat can be uncomfortable and may affect your mood and focus.

  • Great visibility, especially in the early mornings

  • Fewer tourists, which means quieter water and less noise around

Of course, the water starts to cool down, and the northern winds pick up especially in the afternoons. Here's a rough idea of sea temperatures:

  • September: ~26–28°C

  • October: ~24–26°C

  • November: ~22–24°C

If you're planning to train during this season, your wetsuit choice becomes more important.

What Wetsuit Do We Recommend?

Here’s our go-to guide for autumn in Dahab:

  • October: Full 3 mm wetsuit — great for longer dives or deeper sessions.

  • November: 3 mm + an extra top, or a full 5 mm suit, especially for longer static sessions or repeated dives.

💡 Keep in mind: cold tolerance is very individual. Some people feel fine with a thinner suit, while others need more insulation even in warmer water. However, by November, almost everyone in the water is using a 5 mm suit, especially for comfort during long sessions. At Yoga Apnea Dahab, we always prioritize thermal comfort. When your body is warm and protected, it’s much easier to stay relaxed, breathe efficiently, and enjoy your training.

Wind Season & Kitesurfing in Dahab

Autumn also marks the beginning of kitesurf season in Dahab. From late September to April, thermal winds return—often stronger in the afternoon.

This doesn’t affect freediving too much, especially if you're diving in protected areas like Lighthouse, Blue Hole, or Eel Garden, where the mornings remain calm and perfect for deep or static sessions.

Many of our students mix apnea training with kitesurfing in autumn. Dive in the morning, ride the wind in the afternoon—ideal for those looking for variety and a dynamic trip.

Yoga for the Seasonal Shift: Balance and Breath

As the season shifts, so does our yoga practice. The autumn equinox, when day and night are the same length, is a great reminder to reset and ground yourself.

In our sessions, we focus on stability, breath awareness, and mobility, especially for freedivers returning to the water after a break.

Here’s a basic autumn routine you can try on your own:

Gentle Joint Mobility

Spend 1 minute per area, slow circular movements:

  • Neck: releases tension from breath holds and head-down positioning

  • Shoulders: opens up after wearing a wetsuit and repetitive fin strokes

  • Hips: improves mobility for streamlined kicking and comfort in depth

  • Ankles: enhances finning efficiency and relaxation during free fall.

Reset & Open-Up Sequence

Cat–Cow → Mobilizes the spine and connects breath with movement

Low Lunge + Gentle Twist  Opens hip flexors and thoracic spine

Downward Dog → Stretches the entire back body and resets posture after diving

Extended Child’s Pose → Releases tension in the lower back and soothes the nervous system
