Traveling to Dahab , that magical little corner on the Red Sea in Egypt, from Latin America can be quite an adventure, and I've been wanting to tell you about my experience from Chile and Argentina for a long time.
Reaching the Sinai Peninsula from Latin America is no easy feat. The routes are long, the connections often complicated, and if you choose the wrong airlines, the trip can turn into a nightmare.
That's why I want to share my personal and honest experience , traveling from Santiago, Chile , and also from Buenos Aires . I hope what I experienced will help others plan their routes, avoid mistakes, and travel with more peace of mind.

From Santiago, Chile: When the airline leaves you alone
My first trip to Dahab was from Santiago , with the airline Iberia . The experience was, honestly, very frustrating.
Iberia oversold the flight , and I was unable to board, despite having a confirmed ticket . The situation was already insane, but it worsened when I discovered they don't have a check-in counter at Santiago airport . There's no one to assist you face-to-face. I found myself completely alone, trying to resolve everything by phone , carrying my belongings, with no real support, no guidance, and with a slow and inefficient phone service.
After hours of waiting and calls, they rescheduled me for another flight seven hours later than my original one , without any further explanation or assistance. It was a distressing situation, especially since I had booked the following flights separately, and any delay could jeopardize my entire itinerary.
Luckily, I had been cautious and had allowed a long layover in Madrid , precisely because by buying in stages, I had no protection against unforeseen events. That decision saved me.
From Madrid I continued on to Istanbul , and that's where everything started to improve.
Turkish Airlines: a completely different experience
In Istanbul, I took a Turkish Airlines flight to Sharm el-Sheikh , and the difference was immediate. Turkish Airlines is, so far, the airline I enjoy the most. Whenever possible, I choose to fly with them, and on this leg of the journey, they once again proved to be a reliable airline.

From Buenos Aires: less tension, more structure
On another occasion, I traveled from Buenos Aires , and this time I opted for a different strategy: I bought the entire itinerary together through a flight booking platform. It was more expensive, yes, but also more convenient and less risky.
The route was long: Buenos Aires – Zurich – Istanbul – Sharm el-Sheikh , but everything went smoothly. Having all the legs on the same booking gave me peace of mind if anything went wrong: the airline would take care of any changes or unforeseen circumstances.
However, this option also has its limitations: less flexibility in choosing airlines or adjusting schedules . But if your priority is avoiding complications, it's a highly recommended choice.
Things I learned along the way
After these two experiences, I've learned a few lessons that might help you if you're planning a trip to Dahab from Latin America:
🚫 Iberia was not a good experience. They oversold my flight, they don't have in-person customer service in Santiago, and they left me completely alone to deal with the problem.
🌟 Turkish Airlines is highly recommended. Great service, on-time flights, and a comfortable experience overall.
💸 Buying flights separately can be cheaper, but it also leaves you more vulnerable. If you do, leave plenty of time between connections .
📍 Sharm el-Sheikh is the closest and most convenient airport for reaching Dahab. From there, the journey by land is short and easy.
🧘♀️ Long layovers can be a necessary break. In cities like Madrid, Istanbul, or Zurich, you can even go for a walk or simply relax.
And you, how did you get to Dahab?
If you've already traveled to Dahab from Latin America, or are thinking about doing so, I'd love to hear about your experience. What route did you take? Which airlines worked for you? What would you avoid next time?
When you have to cross half the planet to get to such a special place, every detail counts.
